Chernigov region is one of the North areas of Ukraine. It borders on Belorussia (Gomel region) on North-West and on Russia (Bryansk region) - on the North. Sumskaya region is located on the East, Poltava region - on the South, Kievskaya one – on the South-West.

The region is divided into 22 districts; 15 cities, including 3 towns (Chernigov, Nezhin, Priluki) 30 settlements and 1489 villages. Within the region – there is a city of Slavutich – known as city of Chernobyl nuclear scientists.

Chernigov is an administrative center of the region. Region’s population comprises 1152,0 thousands of people, including urban population 700,7 thousands of people (or 60,8%), rural population 451,3 thousands of people (or 39,2%).

The industry of Chernigov region is presented by a number of branches:

Fuel industry of Chernigov region is presented by oil and gas mining, gas condensate and peat mining, and also primary gas processing on Gnedincevsky gas-processing factory.

Mechanical engineering is widely spread in Chernigov region. One can emphasize several main direction of mechanical engineering: agricultural mechanical engineering, its biggest enterprise is a factory of "Nezhinsel'mash", specialized on the production of equipment for the poultry farming; transport mechanical engineering, here is the factory of "Chernigovavtozapchast'" – one of the largest industrial enterprises of the region; it was created for the production of equipment and spare parts for cars "GAS", and also "Pozhmashina", which is practically the unique and the only one producer of the equipment for the fire extinguishing on CIS territory.

Tobacco factory JSC “Priluki" is worth paying attention among the other enterprises, that produces about 15% of all tobacco goods in Ukraine (it is a basic payer in regional and local budgets); JSC "Cheksil" that produces the wool textiles of all kinds (first place in Ukraine); Koryukovsky factory of technical papers. Chernigov factory of musical instruments – is one of the unique enterprises. It produces pianos, children’s musical toys, etc.

A range of industrial enterprises of the region are the main producers of Ukraine. Among them are JSC«Chernigov «Khimvolokno enterprise», that produces cord fabrics, chemical fibre and threads; A business concern «Cheksil» is a main producer of woolen textile in the country; Koryukovsky factory of wall papers; Prilukskiy rent f «Pozhmashina» is the unique factory in Ukraine that produces the fire technique; Nezhinskiy«Sel'mash» factory – is one at the internal market that produces the equipment for the poultry farming; JSC "Priluksky«Belkozin»" factory is the unique in Ukraine producer of proteinous shell for sausages.

For the last years the output of cars and fuel-efficient cars produced by JSC «Chernigovavtodetal'» has significantly increased. This enterprise cooperates with Nizhniy Novgorod car factory.

In the region there about 40 enterprises with foreign investments, that work in the different spheres of economy: wholesale and retail trade, industry, building, sphere of services.

The greatest producers among them are: «Tobacco company «Priluki» (Ukrainian-English) - production of tobacco goods; «Chernigov Brewery „Desna“ (Ukrainian-Belgian) and „Nezhin Beer Factory“ (Ukrainian-Luxemburg) is a production of beer and soft drinks; „Cheksil – Ariadna“ (Ukrainian-American) - textile trade; „ Union Company “ (Ukrainian-Latvian), „TRIAL – Ltd“ (Ukrainian-American) - wholesale and retail trade; Lyusent – Tekhnolodzhi – ChEzAra» (Ukrainian-Netherlands) - telecommunication equipment.

The products of woodprocessing, paper - cellulose, processing, machine-building, chemical and light industry prevail in the export structure. Permanent export flows go to Russia, Belorussia, Lithuania, Latvia, Turkmenistan, Moldova.

In the general volume of imported deliveries the leading place takes the products of industrial group, among which are various equipment, petroleum products, transport vehicles, paper, raw material for the necessities of light industry. Chernigov region – is known to be the most visited area for the tourists.

The comfortable climate conditions, various flora and fauna, 610 natural reserves make this territory attractive both for short and long-term types of rest. Also there are - 13 recreation buildings and sanatoriums, children camps hunting’s and fishing’s bases, water stations, beaches, forest-parks.
