Sumy region
Geography show
Sumy region is situated on the North-East of Ukraine. On the North and East the region borders on Bransk, Kursk and Belgorod regions; the length of state border with Russian Federation is 498 km. On the South, South-East and West Sumy region borders on Kharkov, Poltava and Chernigov regions. The length of the region from West to East is 170 km, from North to South – 200 km.

The total area of Sumy region is 23,8 thousands of sq km. It is divided into 18 districts, 15 cities including 7 of regional submission, 20 settlements and 1500 villages. The largest cities are: Sumy, Konotop, and Shostka.
According to the data of Ukrainian census of population the total population of Sumy region is 1200 thousands of people. Urban population is 842,9 thousands of people or 64,9%, rural population – 456,8 thousands of people or 35,1%. Economy show
The economy of the region is consist of well developed branches of processing and mining industries with devitrified agriculture. Food industry, machine building and metal-processing industries take the leading place in the structure of industrial production. Such industries as fuel, chemical, petroleum and light one are also well developed.
One of the largest enterprises of chemical industry in Ukraine is JSC “Sumykhimprom”. It produces more than 50 items of technical goods. There are mineral fertilizers and forage additives, acids, mineral pigments, water filters, wide range of goods consumer goods.
