The region is located in west of Ukraine and considered to be a part of historical and geographical region of Galiciya. The region borders: on a north-west — with Lvov region, on a northeast — with Ternopol region, on a southeast — with Chernovtsy region, on a south — with Romania and on a south-west — with the Zakarpattia region. The region area is 13, 9 thousands sq.km; 2,3 % of Ukraine territory; 22-nd place in Ukraine

The region consists of 14 districts, 15 cities, including 5 cities of regional value (Ivano-Frankovsk, Kalush, Kolomyya, Yaremcha, Bolekhov), 24 settlements and 765 villages.

Ivano-Frankovsk region economy is a powerful fuel and energy complex, food and woodworking industry, tourism.

The region provides production of potassium mineral fertilizers – 58,9%, sodas caustic – 39,6%, woodchips slabs – 30,8%, wood fiber boards – 46,6%, cement – 9,2%, slate – 42,1%, asbestos and cement pipes, muffs – 56,3%, industrial meters of gas – 90% from all –Ukrainian production.

Oil and gas and oil-processing complex occupies one of the important places among industries of region economy. Specific gravity of products, produced by his enterprises, makes almost third of all-regional volume. Completed production cycle is established in region: drilling of mining holes, mining and processing of oil and gas, their transporting and delivery.

Mikulichinskoe and Yuzhno-Pnivskoe oilfields are discovered by oil and gas mining administration “Nadvirnaneftegaz". Four new grounds for research and investigation works are prepared by oil and gas mining administration “Dolinaneftegaz".

One of the most powerful enterprises of the region (specific gravity in a general production volume is 18%) is JSC “Neftekhimik of Prikarpattia", having considerable production potential in processing of oil and production of petroleum products. Currently company he produces about 30 types of products.

A share of animal husbandry, specialized on a meat-and-milk production, and plant-growing, specialized on growing of grain crops, sugar beet and fief are somewhat higher within the products structure of agricultural production. A leading place in animal husbandry belongs to the meat-and-milk production and cattle breeding. There are developed poultry farming and artificial fish-farming in ponds, lakes and rivers.

Two sugar factories, 14 enterprises on milk processing, 3 meat-processing factories, 3 alcohol factories, 2 breweries are functioning in the region. Sixty seven large and middle enterprises and also 227 small enterprises carry out processing of agricultural products and production of food goods.
