Volyn region is located on the extreme North point of Ukraine in the area of Ukrainian Polesy’e. On West it borders on Poland (border’s length is 230 km) on North – on Belorussia (205 km), on East – on Rovno region (410 km), on South – on Lvov (125 km).

The administrative-territorial structure of the region is the following: 16 administrative districts, 11 cities, including 4 towns (Lutsk, Vladimir-Volynsky, Kovel, Novovolynsk), 22 settlements, 1054 villages.

An administrative center is Lutsk.

Population is 1063,9 thousands of people (2,1% population of Ukraine). Population density is 52,9 persons per sq. km. According to the data of Ukrainian census of population, the cities’ population is 533,2 thousands of people or 50,3%, rural are 527,5 thousands of people or 49,7%.

Agriculture, industry (first of all food) and transport are the basic industries of Volyn’ region’s specialization. Food industry is presented by more than 50 industrial enterprises, the leaders of this industry are such enterprises as Gorokhovskiy, Gvidavskiy, Vladimir-Volhynia sugar factories.

An agroindustrial complex of Volhyn is leading industry of economy, where the third part of gross products is produced. Basic directions of this sector are corn and sugar-beet, potato and vegetables growing and also dairy and beef cattle. Horticulture takes 55% of general volume of agricultural production, and 45% - takes animal husbandry.

Mainly decoration industry and in particular food and engineer industries form the economic potential of the region’s industry. The specific gravity of economy’s industries, which is related with mining/getting of natural resources – is decreasing, at the same time the part of hi-tech industries complication is increasing.

The leading enterprises of the region are:

in mechanical engineering: JSC: Motor-car factory” (specialization of the enterprise is passenger cars production, busses and trolleybuses), Lutsk, “SKF Ukraine” produces the conical roller and cardan bearings, its parts and compressions), “Electrothermometery” (develops and makes industrial and domestic meters for temperature measuring, account of charges of cold and hot water; gas unloaders), “Kovel'sil'mash” (produces machines and mechanisms for an agroindustrial complex), “Kivercispeclismash” (makes woodworking machine-tools for the primary processing of wood);

in food industry: JSC: “Volin'holding” (produces mayonnaises, sauces, seasonings), “Kovel'milk” (produces dairy, butter, cheeses), “Vladimir-Kolinsky can factory” (produces a wide range of fruit purees and fruit and vegetable juices for children with trade mark “Pup-juice”), “Rozhischenskiy s cheese factory” (cheeses), affiliate “Novovolynskiy oil and fat factory” (produces margarines with the trade mark “Runa”), JSC “Rosa-Volyn”, “Luckkonditer” (confectionery), state enterprise alcohol factory, “Lutsk” (vodka and liqueurs);

in chemical industry: JSC: "Luckplastmas" (produces different plastic goods, involved in processing of the second polymeric raw material), “Khemosvit Luckkhim” (makes tapes for packing for food industry and other setting), joint-stock COMPANY “Terikhem-Lutsk” (leader on producing of condenser tape).

Well known in Ukraine JSC "Gerbor-holding" and “BRV-Ukraine” produce the wide spectrum of furniture. The quality of which is provided due to a modern equipment.
